Canalway develops the northern end of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. We are the chief fundraiser for the Towpath Trail Greenway in Cleveland, taking the lead in strategic decision-making, grant writing, and community outreach. Canalway Partners works with the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition on the development of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. 


To preserve the natural and cultural experiences of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area for the future by serving as a catalyst for projects and programs that connect people to place for the prosperity of all.

Inspired by nature, the towpath and cultural exploration, the Canalway brand refresh takes on a bold new look that tells the story of the brand. The arrowhead shape, both overall, and highlighted at the tip of the mark, acts as a testament to the needle on a compass leading the way for all. Its shape draws the familiar connection to environmental brands such as the National Park Service. The negative space of the mark acts as both the Ohio canalway and the Cleveland towpath running from North to South. The three-part icon symbolizes the Canalway brand vision to enrich humanity with access to premier natural and cultural experiences in order to discover an authentic sense of self, community, and place.



The Canalway logo icon and logotype is comprised of two shades of green, with an accent of chartreuse for the tip of the icon. While all three colors are impactful, bold and highly visible, the dark green helps to anchor the brighter and lighter colors within the logo palette.


Most prominently found in nature, the color green embodies rich foliage, lush greenery, and vast landscapes. This earthy hue is commonly associated with Mother Earth, which is why it’s thought to be calming and ubiquitous. Offering relaxation, green soothes with its gentle and peaceful undertones. Evergreen is a deep, sultry green that conveys coziness and tranquility.

Canal Green

Canal Green, comprised of blue shades and green tones, is a combination of these two prominent hues, representative of the Canalway brand values. The color is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, inspiration, and sensitivity. Canal Green represents meanings of depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, and intelligence.



Chartreuse is a lively shade that combines the vitality of green with the energy and optimism of yellow. Chartreuse represents liveliness, vitality, and fun. Much like the Canalway brand, Chartreuse is a unique color that’s beloved for its individuality.



Canalway hosts & supports many events throughout the year, which have allowed for the public to connect and establish a relationship with the brand. Throughout the history of the Canalway brand & its many events, there have been a number of “event logos” created. This has caused brand-confusion, as these previous event logos were competing with the Canalway logo.

By establishing “event icons,” Canalway is introducing a consistent icon/mark that can represent each event that works alongside the main Canalway brand logo as categorized by the activity. This helps viewers understand that the event being held is hosted by the Canalway brand, ultimately making the Canalway organization a “branded-house.”
